Speed Dating

As its name implies, speed dating shortens the length of period that two persons meet and get to know each other. Speed dating can actually be similar to traditional dating in the sense that another party may be involved in setting up the pair. However, the difference lies on the “middleman” as the third party is professional or specializing in hooking up people available for dating.

Joining a speed dating program is pretty simple. Basically, speed dating convenes all dating candidates in one venue set-up like a casual bar where people can relax and communicate comfortably on sofas and with complimentary drinks. These candidates have name plates and each are designated in a specific area of the room. At the organizer's signal, people start to converse and talk with each other for a given time, usually just several minutes, to get to know the vibes and interests of their possible prospect. Then, the people rotate until every person has the chance to get to know everybody.

During speed dating, each person is equipped with a score card to enable them to check or list the persons they deem would be compatible to their own personalities. Once speed dating has come to an end, the cards are submitted to the agency who evaluates and tallies the results while the participants mingle on their own. They then announce the matches of each man and woman, and encourages them to further their correspondence beyond the dating session. In short, the speed dating party merely acts as the “matchmaker” and provides people with a venue for initial contact.

Historically, speed dating has been employed by Jews to ensure that they would marry their own kind. However, the dating practice has gone beyond religious borders. It has now been embraced by many who wish to meet their own date prospects without the hassle of compromising their busy schedule and searching dates on their own.
