Traditional Dating

Traditional dating is, in essence, an actual, face-to-face communication between prospects or couples. Compared to other kinds of dating, traditional dating allows no 'shortcuts'; persons involved are to conduct their manner in accordance to the beliefs or value system of a culture or a person, or else, let themselves be dictated and influenced by other external factors, like families, friends, or other relatives. In this light, traditional dating needs utmost dedication, perseverance, and patience. Thus, it may take a long time, in months or even years for the efforts of dating to bear fruit, so to speak.

Although the times have changed, traditional dating in the conventional sense still persists in some parts of the globe. Dating usually comprises of courting and following a set of customs or etiquette of a specific culture in the belief that this would initiate rapport and make the relationship lasting, not just between the couples but also between the families of the two individuals. This is evident in remote areas and civilizations, where modern ideas of dating are too blatant or too insincere to be taken seriously and embedded as foundations for a relationship. An image of traditional dating can be seen in arranged marriages, where the woman has no right to choose or decline being partnered with her man, so long as the lineage is preserved and her family can gain from the wealth of the male's family.

On the other hand, people can also see a different picture of traditional dating emerging in these times of technological advancement. Since various personal gadgets and technologies have given way for new avenues of meeting people, traditional dating can now be classified as simply an actual personal and physical meeting and interaction of two people. Several circumstances may have bought these two persons together. They could have met as strangers and hooked up in a public place like a park or bar. They could have been friends for a long time already and has now decided to take their relationship to another level. They could also have been set up by friends or relatives for a blind date. Whatever the reason may be, the important thing to remember in traditional dating is that it utilizes the simplest and most common method we know: interpersonal communication.
